Inspired by Kelly Rae Roberts book, created for my quilt guild challenge to create a 45" square quilt using black and white and one bright color. Made with commercial and over dyed fabrics. The face was drawn and painted on white cotton. Some of the black fabric with white dots was also hand painted. Machine and hand quilted.

I think I've been staring at it too long... I have a pile of black and white ribbons, buttons and beads that are tempting me, but I'm not sure if it needs more embellishment...maybe a measuring tape belt...random buttons on the background side...

This has been occupying up my time lately.

The Cincinnati Art Museum collected fabric donations from area residents and our guild put the quilt together. To help unify the quilt a bit, I sorted the car load of fabric the museum dropped off into 9 different colors and made 72 quilt block packets. 70 different people made a block (2 people made 2 blocks) and on Saturday 4 members and I put the top together. It's 74" wide x 82.5" long (about double bed size).

I learned a lot about quilting (including sewing straight 1/4 inch seams - something I always avoided) and had fun coordinating the project. It will be on display at the museum in April and raffled off to one lucky resident.

Any guesses as to which block is mine?

It's bad when you look down at your heated frozen entree lunch and notice that it has a metallic green tinge.

*sigh* so much for lunch...

work has been kicking my ass lately and eating up chunks of normally free me time; including 6 hours during last weekend and I just finished a 10 hour day

it's no wonder I've only been able to put my energy ironing, sorting and organizing 5 bins of scrap fabric during the last week

it's not creative, but it's soothing and relaxing to see all the scraps organized by color, some by color and size, and imagine the projects I could make if I weren't so exhausted each night

Self Expression Portrait
Originally uploaded by believemagic.

I enrolled in a quilt class taught by Kate Sturman Gorman. With lots of fusible webbing I created this portrait - or maybe it's a self-portrait of sorts.

I didn’t want to mess it up with stitching - I liked the raw edges - so I backed it with upholstery fabric, finished the edges and added the necklace. Now it sits on my art table, beckoning me to make another.

Here's the project I made

30's prints project

I call it 'Dressed up Grace Kelly'

30's prints project

Someone in my guild asked, 'Why Grace Kelly?' I replied, 'Because she went with all the fabrics!'

Lana Turner's hair was too dark and others didn't look good printed on fabric.

Look what woke me up 2 hours early this mornig!

All the cats were chasing a bat in our bedroom. I looked up how to capture it and Troy did the actual catch and release.

I'm wide awake and at work 2 hours early. Hope everyone else had a less bat filled morning.

Challenge Fabric
Originally uploaded by believemagic.

My quilt group does quarterly challenges. This quarter's was a hobo pack with 10 6" squares of 30's print fabrics all wrapped in the red fabric and hung on the stick. The little slip of paper is meant to jump start our creative juices.

Unfortunately, I have no idea what to create as I am not inspired by the fabrics.

I can create anything as long as I use a piece of everything.

Should I over-dye it? Paint it? Or just embrace the fabrics and make a crazy apron with lots of big bright trims?

Any one have suggestions?

One of the first things I did when I moved to Cincinnati was join a local quilt guild.  With 400 members, each month I am dazzeled by show & tell.  However, this month I just had to share these with others....

black & white dress

I love designing paper dresses. This is a paper and tulle dress embellished with ribbon and old jewelry on a masking tape dress form.

Words Woman Fabric Book - Back & Front Cover

Here's a picture of the back and front covers. I must find more of this fabric, it looks like leather but runs through a sewing machine like it's flannel.

my quilt guild challenge project:

We were given a fat quarter and a fabric fortune cookie with which we could create anything that incorporated both the idea of fortune and the fabric. These pages show the challenge fabric. My fortune said, 'To know the mind of a woman, listen to her words.'

I paired vintage nude images with quotes by famous women. The book is entirely composed of fabric with various embellishments including antique lace, button, beads, antique jewelry and ribbon. Some pages include pull out ATCs. The book is bound by weaving ribbon through the 5 signatures.

Subject:Did I just have a baby?
Security:Public

S from Dr. T's office called to remind me of my appointment tomorrow at 11:15 am.  When I asked what the appointment was for, the scheduling nurse asked, 'Didn't you just have a baby?'

Half laughing at the absurdity, I replied, 'No. No, no baby. No, I can't even have babies!'

I've been sick and I'm occasionally prone to forgetfulness, but I certain I didn't have a baby.  I called my husband to confirm, in case I missed something in my snot filled coma last weekend.
